Folks, Meet Angela and Holland. Two pretty awesome people from the South who have moved West! They’re currently doing their residency in Salt Lake City, UT and will soon be making the long trek north to Portland, OR! I was super stoked when Angela contacted me about shooting her wedding in The Vicksburg, Mississippi. I’ve never shot there before, and actually I had never really been there before either. Its quite a cool historic town. The ceremony was at Christ Episcopal Church, which was founded in 1828 and actually had daily services during the siege. Luckily the church was spared and made for a fantastic backdrop to their ceremony. The reception followed at the legendary B B Club, with amazing architecture and lighting. Turns out the place was the local police station for the longest time!
Congrats A & H!

As I was getting ready this post, I realized there was quite a lot to say…so excuse the ramblings!
First off…OMG! The Lumineers killed it at Hal and Mal’s Tuesday night. I had very very high expectations for these guys, and they blew me out of the water. So much so, I almost had Lauren convinced to call up the babysitter because we’re going to the next show! If I could quit my day job and become a groupie…and my family didn’t mind living like gypsies…I would! Seriously if you haven’t heard their stuff, check them out live here at Chase Jarvis Live. And if they are coming anywhere close to you…GO! Tour schedule here.
Secondly, this was the first time to give my new little baby the Fujifilm X100 a good test. I was stoked to get this little tiny beast of a camera. I wanted something powerful enough to handle anything I could throw at it, but be small enough it doesn’t get left in the hotel room because I’m tired of carrying a 10lb weight! I really wasn’t sure what to expect. The venue was super dark. I was shooting at ISOs of 6400. I had the shutter clicked down to 1/60. Well again, I was more then impressed! Don’t believe me, see for yourself and let me know what you think!
So, yeah…going to say some thanks! Thanks for Jackson photog group for having a meeting on the same night as The Lumineers! Gave me an excuse to drive the 2 hours+ just to see a band! Thanks to Hal and Mal’s for being one of the only bars downtown, so that I just happend to see a poster for The Lumineers the weekend before. Thanks to Courtney for letting me photograph her wedding which brought me to Jackson, which in turn led me to Hal and Mal’s where I saw the poster for The Lumineers! And really thanks to Kristen and Deborah from Signature Occasions for recommending me to Courtney to shoot her wedding which brought me to Jackson where I saw a poster advertising The Lumineers. Um…Thanks to Brian Flint of Films by Flint for driving and coming with, because I probably would have backed out. Last but not least, thanks to Chase Jarvis for being just awesome and featuring these guys in his studio, so that this wanna be groupie could discover a pretty fabulous band! Oh and thanks to Zack Aris for convincing me to get the FujiFilm X100…it truly is a gnarly little camera.

Yes, Double Decker Arts Festival has come and gone, but I totally forgot I had some pictures to post! It’s wedding season, give me a break!!
Maybe its just a clue that I’m getting older, or maybe its just because I really don’t listen to the radio anymore, but honestly I had never heard of any of the headliners this year. Well, except for Mavis Staples, but she’s not really new to the scene! I must say though, with a band name Deer Tick, we aren’t expecting much, but they were pretty awesome on stage! I don’t know what their recorded stuff is like, but I was impressed. Iron and Wine followed next on Friday, and Mavis Staples closed the show on Saturday.
Until next year’s Fest

First, the good…This was the first time for Oxford, MS to participate in the National and International Annual Ride of Silence. The Ride of Silence is going on its 10th year and is held at 100s if not 1000s of cities across the States and Worldwide. The premise behind the ride is a for a slow-paced and silent ride in honor of cyclists who have been injured or killed on public roadways. There was a fairly good turn out, despite it being a Wednesday and school was out. The weather was perfect and I think those who participated really were moved and had a good time.
Secondly, I just urge you all to think while driving. I understand we have places to go, and I understand its frustrating to drive so slow, but we must remember the person on the bike, or jogging or running is a person. They are probably someone’s significant other..most certainly they are someone’s son or daughter. By law, its their road too…SHARE the ROAD! This is coming from someone who’s wife is an avid road cyclist, who’s best-friend’s wife was killed while cycling, and who himself likes to ride every now and then…Calm down and think!
Rest in Peace, Kevser…

Well, we weren’t going to let the rain hold us back! Although it was quite doubtful we would be making it outside, but the sun showed it’s pretty face just in time for Courtney and Tommy’s first look! C and T tied the knot at the most fabulous First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS. The ceremony was followed with a throw down at the downtown Jackson Marriott. The party was so hot that Iron Man himself made an appearance… Wedding planning and design brought to you by the marvelous Deborah Simmons and Kristen Blackard of Signature Occasions and Memphis Soul Review had the party rockin”!
Until next time

How freaking cool is this! 2012, is making out to be a year of firsts for Captured Photography! I recently shot the album art for Johnny Blackthorn’s recent album!!! Johnny’s album, Dry, dropped last Saturday, so please check out his website and Facebook pages, and hit him up for an album if interested! At the same time, I am now the exclusive photographer for Mission 66 Music, based here in Oxford! This is a new label looking to provide support to independent artists. I’m most stoked about Bill Perry…that dude is a musical wizard! So if you’re in a band and you want to take it to the next level, please please, drop Gabriel an email!

Meet Molly and Michael! Michael actually carved his proposal into a tree!! He took Molly out for a stroll out near Sardis Lake, and where he surprised her with it! Their ceremony is going to be at her parents home in Water Valley and the reception to follow at the historic downtown and is being designed by the fabulous Krista Bloome of A Bash Events!

Meet Kristen and Logan! We finally got to do their engagement photos. Poor Kristen has been trying to schedule these up for weeks, but weather and black eyes (funny story!) kept putting us on hold. Glad we waited though, because the weather was fantastic! Logan played outfield for Ole Miss while at school, so had the hook up, and we got to go out to Swayze Field for a unique engagement session! Finished things up with a gorgeous sunset out at Rowan Oak and a perfect image of the two!
By the way, the Rebels are ranked 18th right now!

Meet Lauren and Andy. Lauren has style!!! I totally dig the mini-veil and the arm bracelet. Oh and Andy didn’t stop smiling the whole day, ear to ear! We started out with portraits around the infamous Oxford Square. The weather was perfect…maybe a bit chilly, but it wasn’t raining! Their ceremony was at Oxford-University Methodist with the reception following on the rooftop at The Oxford University Club where The Boufants, a band from Memphis, come down and put on a show!
L&A enjoy Belize and the pics!
