Yes, Double Decker Arts Festival has come and gone, but I totally forgot I had some pictures to post!  It’s wedding season, give me a break!!

Maybe its just a clue that I’m getting older, or maybe its just because I really don’t listen to the radio anymore, but honestly I had never heard of any of the headliners this year.  Well, except for Mavis Staples, but she’s not really new to the scene!  I must say though, with a band name Deer Tick, we aren’t expecting much, but they were pretty awesome on stage!  I don’t know what their recorded stuff is like, but I was impressed.  Iron and Wine followed next on Friday, and Mavis Staples closed the show on Saturday.

Until next year’s Fest

How freaking cool is this!  2012, is making out to be a year of firsts for Captured Photography!  I recently shot the album art for Johnny Blackthorn’s recent album!!!  Johnny’s album, Dry, dropped last Saturday, so please check out his website and Facebook pages, and hit him up for an album if interested!  At the same time, I am now the exclusive photographer for Mission 66 Music, based here in Oxford!  This is a new label looking to provide support to independent artists.  I’m most stoked about Bill Perry…that dude is a musical wizard!  So if you’re in a band and you want to take it to the next level, please please, drop Gabriel an email!

Party on Wayne

Last weekend was 16th Double Decker Arts Festival in Oxford, MS, and it was the first time it had ever been over two-nights.  Old Crow Medicine Show started the weekend off right on Friday night with a fantastic concert in the street. Then Saturday, was a great day of art shopping, fair food eating, and music listening!  For about 30 minutes, the clouds started looking like something out of Ghostbusters where the big ole marshmallow man comes out of the sky.

On to the photos, starting with three of my favorite things (in no particular order!)

One day down three more to go at the 8th annual Oxford Film Fest!  Come on our and come see some fantastic independent movies.  I promise you won’t be disappointed!  Tonight the Lyric hosted the Thacker Mountain Radio show as a kick off for the weekend festivities.  We got to hear from Michael Adams, an author who watched a movie everyday for a year in hopes to find the worst movie ever made!  Then music by Robert Belfour, absolutely amazing Blues man, and from Kenny Brown, whom I have seen often in Oxford many times.  There was also a discussion with Les Blank, who has many films showing at this years film fest.  After the show, the big screen dropped for three films, Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe by Les Blank, Spanola Pepper Sauce Co. by Ray McKinnon (my favorite of the night), and Brothers Justice produced and directed by Palmer Inc.  Oh and Joey Lauren Adams presented Ron Shapiro with an award for his historic Oxford theater , The Hoka!  So folks don’t miss all the great films showing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

Well, Unfortunately Double Decker kind of got “rained out” this year.  Basically a huge system came through Mississippi setting off a bunch of tornadoes, and to be cautious, the city decide to post-pone the daily activities until Sunday but still keep the evening music line-up.  Since I was heading to Portland on Sunday, I missed all of the arts festival, but at least I got some wicked photos of a few of the bands on Saturday.  Stay tuned for a couple of pics from the Double Decker spring ride.

The Lyric was packed!  But of course that was expected, Wilco was rocking the house.  So cool that we have a place in Oxford where we can see major acts like this.
